Frequently Asked Questions

faq

We know starting therapy can feel like a big step. At Ashay Therapy, our goal is to make the process feel simple, supportive, and stress-free. Below, you’ll find answers to the most common questions new clients ask.

1. What forms of payment do you accept, and what is the cost of sessions?

Our standard session rate is $185 for a 50-minute Session and $296 for an 80-minute session. We accept credit cards and e-transfers for payments, processed securely through JaneApp. After each session, you’ll automatically receive a receipt that can be submitted to your insurance provider for reimbursement.

💡 Tip: Many clients use their Work insurance or Health Spending Accounts (HSAs) to cover therapy sessions.

2. Do you provide sliding-scale pricing or low-cost therapy?

Yes, we do. We offer sliding-scale rates with our therapists to make therapy more accessible based on your financial situation.

We also provide low-cost therapy through our practicum student, starting at $100 per 50-minute session an excellent option for those without insurance coverage. You can learn more or join the low-cost therapy waitlist here.

3. Do you offer direct billing to insurance?

Yes, we do offer direct billing to many major insurance providers. You can view the full list of supported providers here. If your plan doesn’t allow direct billing, we’ll provide you with a detailed receipt right after your session so you can easily submit it for reimbursement.

4. What provinces can you see clients in for psychotherapy sessions?

Our licensed therapists provide virtual therapy across Canada, depending on their provincial registration. We offer in-person sessions in Downtown Calgary, Alberta. If you’re unsure whether we can see you in your province, email us at info@ashaytherapy.ca and we’ll confirm before booking.

5. What can I expect from the free 20-minute consultation?

Your consultation is a chance to get a feel for what therapy could look like with us, without any pressure or commitment required.

  • You’ll meet with one of our therapists to:
  • Talk about what’s bringing you to therapy
  • Ask questions about how we work
  • We go over logistics
  • Learn more about what sessions might look like

It’s a space to see if the therapist feels like a good fit and whether our approach aligns with your needs.

6. How do I choose the right therapist for me?

Each therapist has their own personality, style, and focus areas, from trauma and anxiety to burnout and self-esteem. You can use our Therapist Matching Tool to get personalized recommendations based on your goals and preferences, or explore our Meet the Team page to learn more about each therapist.

If you’re still unsure, book a free 20-minute consultation to meet and see who feels like the best fit for you.

7. What is your cancellation or rescheduling policy?

We understand that life happens. If you need to cancel or reschedule, we just ask for at least 24 hours’ notice so we can offer the time to someone else. Sessions canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice or missed without notice are subject to the full session fee.

8. What can I expect from my first session?

Your first session is all about getting to know you, your story, what’s been feeling heavy, and what you hope to work toward. There’s no pressure to share everything at once. Together, you and your therapist will talk about your goals and begin creating a plan that feels supportive and realistic.

9. What if I’m not sure therapy is right for me?

That’s completely okay, many people feel uncertain at first. Therapy isn’t just for moments of crisis; it’s also a space to better understand yourself, set boundaries, and build tools for everyday life.

If you’re curious but unsure, book a free 20-minute consultation to explore whether therapy feels like a fit for you

10. What if I’m nervous about starting therapy?

Feeling nervous is entirely normal. You don’t need to know what to say or where to start. We'll guide you through it. Therapy is simply a space where you can slow down, process, and be met with understanding. Here is a blog post on what to expect and how to get the most out of therapy.
