Independent Contractor Therapist

Ashay Therapy is a growing private practice based in Calgary, Alberta, providing culturally responsive and trauma-informed counselling to clients across Canada. Our work centres individuals from diverse and marginalized communities, with a strong focus on supporting BIPOC clients.

Our mission is to help destigmatize mental health and create a safe, inclusive, and affirming space where clients feel supported in ways that honour their identity, lived experiences, and healing journey.


Practice Description

About the Role

Therapists are required to have 15–20 hours of availability posted weekly within these time blocks.

Candidates must be licensed to practice in Alberta, and preferably also licensed in other provinces such as Ontario. Applicants should be based in Calgary or able to travel periodically for in-person collaboration, team meetings, and marketing activities.

What We Offer

  • Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology, Psychology, or Social Work
  • Active registration and good standing with an appropriate regulatory body (e.g., Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, College of Alberta Psychologists, Alberta College of Social Workers)
  • Licensed to practice in Alberta and ideally additional provinces

Education Requirements

  • Minimum 2–2.5 years of clinical experience
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and sensitivity when working with diverse populations
  • Experience supporting clients across various age groups and backgrounds
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage a caseload, conduct intakes, and maintain timely clinical documentation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Availability to provide evening sessions, with some daytime and morning availability
  • Flexibility to offer both virtual and in-person sessions
  • Professional liability insurance
  • Access to a reliable computer and confidential workspace for virtual sessions
  • Availability to attend monthly team meetings (first Friday of each month at 11:00 a.m.)

We are seeking a qualified Counsellor, Psychotherapist, Psychologist, or Social Worker to join our growing practice as an independent contractor. The ideal candidate is passionate about providing high-quality, culturally attuned care and supporting clients with concerns related to stress, burnout, trauma, relationships, and emotional regulation.

Experience or training in modalities such as EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Somatic Therapy are highly valued.

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and committed Practicum Student / Counselling Intern based in Calgary who is eager to gain hands-on experience within a private practice setting. This role is ideal for a graduate-level counselling student who is ready to engage fully in the rhythm, responsibilities, and professional standards of working in a therapy practice.

The intern will provide virtual (and potentially in-person) counselling under supervision, participate in team meetings, and contribute to the overall clinical culture of the practice.

This role requires a minimum of 20 hours of weekly availability posted on the schedule (you won’t be working 20 hours a week), as this significantly increases the likelihood of client bookings and allows for meaningful clinical experience throughout the practicum period.

What We Offer

  • Currently enrolled in a Master’s-level Counselling, Psychology, or Social Work program
  • Eligible to begin a practicum or internship as approved by your academic institution
